Mark Pettus, MD, FACP, ABOIM
Executive Team | President

Associate Professor of Medicine
University of Massachusetts Medical School

Dr. Mark Pettus is a triple-board certified Internist, Nephrologist, and Integrative Medicine physician practicing for over 30 years. He received his A.B. from Boston University and his M.D. from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His postdoctoral training was at Harvard Medical School. He completed his renal fellowship at The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Pettus is also an alumnus of The Advanced Program for Conflict Resolution, Negotiation, and Mediation at The Harvard School of Public Health. He currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for The National Wellness Institute.
Dr. Pettus is former Director of Wellness, Population Health and Community Care at Berkshire Health Systems in western Massachusetts. Dr. Pettus is former Director of Medical Education at Berkshire Health Systems, and he previously served as The Associate Dean of Medical Education at The University of Massachusetts Medical School.  His current faculty position is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. 

He is the author of two books, The Savvy Patient: The Ultimate Advocate For Quality Health Care and It’s All in Your Head: Change Your Mind, Change Your Health. He serves on the teaching faculty at The Center for Mind-Body Medicine in D.C. and The Meditation Institute in Averill Park NY.

Dr. Pettus is the 2018 recipient of The National Institute of Wellness’ Halbert Dunn MD, PhD Award. The National Wellness Institute’s Halbert L. Dunn Wellness Award is the most prestigious award presented by the National Wellness Institute and is regarded as one of the highest honors in the health promotion and wellness fields. Recipients of the award have shown a dedication to wellness over the course of their lifetime, making many significant contributions and offering leadership that furthered the field of wellness. In addition, Dr. Pettus was recognized by the Massachusetts State Senate in 2018 for his leadership in Population-Community Health in Berkshire County, Massachusetts.

Dr. Pettus has appeared on numerous TV and Radio venues nationally including the 700 Club, Good Morning America, NPR, and PBS. His podcast, The Health Edge is heard by people all over the world. He has two children ages 31 and 29. He and his wife Lee Ann enjoy being out in nature, reading, music, and being at the ocean’s edge.

Stacey is a Registered Dietitian with significant experience in wellness marketing and communications from global food companies to start-ups; previously supporting billion-dollar global food brands, novel nutrition ingredients and everything in between. 

In her current role, she is the Vice President of Marketing and Operations at Preventia Group where she develops and leads care provider network recruitment and management efforts, drives client success, and spearheads Preventia’s marketing and communications.

Stacey has a Master of Science degree in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Tennessee, which provides her with a foundation in population wellness and drives her passion for mission-driven branding and social causes. Grounded in Farm-to-Fork issues as a 5th generation farmer, she also is a passionate believer that food is more than simply nutrients – it is also the compilation of our celebrations, memories, and culture.

Lana Saal holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Master’s in Health, and Bachelor’s in Nutrition; Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) through the National Wellness Institute and certifications as Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS), and MultiCultural Competency (MCC) through HR.com. Lana is a speaker, author, and inspirer of happier healthier humans and a lifelong learner with 25 years of expertise in Health Promotion and Worksite Wellness. He specializes in the areas of health and wellbeing technology, data analytics, absence and leave management, STD, LTD, occupational rehabilitation, disability management, and disability prevention, workers’ compensation, mental health, musculoskeletal health, chronic disease, wellness & wellbeing, medical assessment, and health & safety. Kristi Leonard, EdD, MA, CWP, NBC-HWC

In 2016, Kristi returned to her alma mater, Central College, as the Assistant Dean of Students, Wellness and Well-Being. Her primary charge is to further Central’s Integrated Learning plan through providing focused vision, oversight, and management of wellness-related initiatives, programs, and services for students. Prior to her return to Central, Kristi served as a faculty member at Waldorf University from 2005-2016. She was a tenured Associate Professor of Wellness, the Wellness Department Chair, and served as the Faculty Chair for three years, where she represented the faculty in many capacities. She was honored with the Waldorf Board of Trustees Outstanding Faculty Award in 2014. From 2000-2005, Kristi worked at Luther College in the areas of wellness, residence life, and student activities. Kristi has been and is very active in her local communities. She is currently a member of the Pella Wellness Consortium and Leadership Red Rock. Previously she collaborated to create and facilitate a Healthy Kids program as well as a 3K3 walk/run/wag event, in which all proceeds went to the American Cancer Society. She was the Chair of the Forest City Wellness Coalition, Vice President of the Forest City YMCA Board of Directors, a member of the Forest City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and a member of the Puckerbrush 5K committee. Dr. Mwalui serves on several boards and work groups to advance a culture of health for “Health Equity Resource Centers” (HERC). Widely known for his thought leadership, Ryan has worked with Fortune 500 companies, been a keynote speaker at global conferences and currently serves as a strategic advisory board member at LifeGuides, as a senior fellow with WE in the Nation focusing on well-being and equity around the world and is on the board of directors at National Wellness Institute. Nicole B. Stec is the Director of Well-Being for Banner Health based in Phoenix, Arizona, and a national speaker on employer on-site clinics and well-being strategies. For the past ten years, Nicole has worked in community and corporate health settings, designing and implementing population health management strategies for organizations, including healthcare systems, small businesses, the U.S. military and local government.

In her current role, Nicole is responsible for Banner Health’s system-wide well-being strategy for 55,000+ team members located in six states. Nicole recently implemented the Banner Strong Center for Healing to support the mental well-being, healing, and recovery of healthcare workers post-pandemic.  Nicole has also increased Banner’s team member well-being engagement to more than 50% in the past two years with the introduction of a holistic well-being approach and new wellness technology.

Bridgette Stewart serves as the Chief Wellness Officer for the University of West Georgia and
the Founder and Director of the Center for Integrative Wellness. She is a passionate health and wellness professional with over 20 years of experience in curriculum and wellness-initiative development. She uses her knowledge and experience as an NBC-HWC health coach and worksite wellness specialist to develop programs for students, faculty, staff, and the local community to improve their overall well-being.

Over the last ten years, she has served in numerous leadership positions and on boards of directors across the Southeast. From 2015- 2016, she served as president of her state health association. From 2011-2012, she served on the board of directors for Southern District Shape America. She served as the chair of NWI’s Council on Wellness Certification Excellence and in 2018 was inducted into NWI’s Circle of Leadership.

Bridgette continues to educate countless future professionals, organizations, and community members through presentations, initiatives, and service-learning projects. Currently, she volunteers her time teaching Mental Health First Aid the and CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program. Bridgette looks forward to shaping professional development for wellness professionals across the country.

Bridgette continues to educate countless future professionals, organizations, and community members through presentations, initiatives, and service-learning projects. Currently, she volunteers her time teaching Mental Health First Aid the and CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program. Bridgette looks forward to shaping professional development for wellness professionals across the country.

Roberta (Bert) Wachtelhausen is the visionary and strategic leader of WellSpark Health. She is a recognized expert in health care and wellness, with more than 30 years of experience. Under Bert’s leadership, WellSpark delivers a suite of programs designed to support the modern workforce in preventing and managing chronic disease. Working with WellSpark, employers create a culture of health moving even the hardest-to-move employees to a more enduring well. This ultimately leads to mitigating future healthcare costs, improving productivity and engagement, and reducing absenteeism.

Prior to leading WellSpark, Bert was Senior Vice President, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for ConnectiCare. She has also held senior leadership positions at national and regional health plans, including Cigna, Meritain and LifeCare. In addition, she co-founded a health benefits startup, Averde Health.

Bert was named to the 2021 Power 25 Health Care list by Hartford Business Journal and 2020 Distinguished Alumna by the UConn Neag School of Education. In 2019, she won the Chief Marketing Officer of the Year award from the Hartford Business Journal. Bert has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education and was a Division 1 athlete for the Huskies. She completed graduate-level coursework at the University of Hartford studying Organizational Behavior.

Bert currently serves on the board of directors for the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame and the National Wellness Institute. She volunteers her time with several non-profit organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, and Special Olympics.

Barbara serves health and wellness professionals and organizations across the country as an advocate, a transactional lawyer and a compliance resource.  Her commitment to improving health and wellness also shows through her community service.  Barbara founded the Wellness Compliance Institute, a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve wellness program and activity compliance.  She has also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Wellness Institute.
