Built on NWI’s four W.E.L.L. principles (Whole-person, Environment, Lifestyle, and Learning) and the power of self-awareness, individuals are encouraged to rate and reflect on their current level of satisfaction in each dimension and formulate specific action steps to guide them from where they are now to where they want to be.

NWI’s Wellness Promotion Competency Model is a groundbreaking standard for wellness practitioners around the world. The model serves as the standard for the Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) certification program and strengthens one’s knowledge, skills, and abilities by providing a framework that drives multidimensional, multicultural high-level wellness.
In collaboration with Butler University, NWI conducted research to clarify and support the validity of each of the five domains comprising the WPC model: Authenticity & Self-awareness, Whole-person & Systems Approaches, Inclusive & Responsive Practices, Communication & Connection, and Legal & Ethical Principles.

Proprietary to NWI, our Multicultural Wellness Wheel is designed to support wellness practitioners and related stakeholders in broadening their outlook as it relates to the concepts of wellness and well-being, and to support the recognition of the interlocking systems displayed within the wheel.
Focusing on three pillars for optimal and lifelong well-being—Personal & Family Wellness, Community Wellness, and Worksite Wellness—the Multicultural Wellness Wheel concept map addresses applied multicultural competency and the needs and goals of individuals, families, and workplaces. It also provides a guide for the development of well communities and civic infrastructures.

The National Wellness Institute’s 21-Day W.E.L.L. Challenge is a self-guided, daily learning challenge designed to help participants expand their understanding of whole-person wellness through a multicultural lens. This exclusive W.E.L.L. challenge was developed in collaboration with The Privilege Institute and the University of West Georgia using NWI’s Multicultural Wellness Wheel, Six Dimensions of Wellness model, and the Privilege Institute’s original 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge.
Applicable to both group and individual settings, this comprehensive professional toolkit has been purposefully designed to help wellness professionals raise awareness and guide both clients and communities toward a more WELL life.

Released after the WELL Leader Connect Event hosted in conjunction with the 2021 National Wellness Conference, the Social Activation of Wellness Report explores how NWI’s Wellness Promotion Competency Model addresses both opportunities and obstacles in today’s wellness evolution to help leaders shift mindsets, behaviors, and practices.
Addressing three specific action areas essential to the successful execution of high-level wellness strategies (proper messaging, accessibility to tools and resources, and the expansion of quality-of-life standards), the SAOW report outlines the importance of developing clear and meaningful messaging for targeted audiences and taking a multidimensional and multicultural approach to execute high-level wellness programming.
